Offer Process

At the conclusion of the season which this year means after the last tournament for your age group, the head coach(es) for the team(s) you will be eligible for will send an email sharing either an offer to join a team or that your position would depend on tryouts. In rare cases, a coach would share with you that you will not be offered a spot on a Mission team so that you can look elsewhere.

Our goal is to provide clear communication so you know exactly where you stand and can make decisions if needed to tryout for other clubs.

Timing off offers:

  • 18U: Offers will be sent Tue, July 29 by 8pm

  • 16U National Burr: Offers will be sent Tue, July 29 by 9pm

  • 16U National Skibbie, 15U National Gavin & 16U Gold Taylor: Offers will begin roughly a day after Gavin and Skibbie finish their Alliance Tournament. (Could be as early as Wednesday and late as Friday and we will send asap)

  • 14U National Reak: Offers will be sent Tue, July 29 by 8pm

  • 13U National Jansen: Offers will be sent Tue, July 29 by 8pm

  • 12U National Weber: Offers will be sent Tue, July 29 by 8pm

  • 11U Ly: Offers will be sent Tue, July 29 by 8pm

Three potential notices:

  1. An offer to join a team.

  2. An offer will be determined at tryouts

  3. No offer will be given

*Note that at the 16U level given the number of teams players may receive different notices from different players. 16U Gold will need to wait until the 15U and 16U National teams have completed their offers.

1. An Offer to Join A Team

This offer is used when a coach has a clear role for you on the team next year and does not need to evaluate any options at tryouts in order to extend an offer.

We ask that you respond to the coaches email that you accept the offer as soon as possible that day. That response will be your acceptance. We will follow up with a link to complete a form to onboard you for next season.

If you do not accept that offer, please explain to the coach your reason and plan. Note that an offer that is not accepted can be retracted at anytime as the coach needs to make other offers to complete the team.


2. An Offer will be determined at tryouts

This offer is used when the coach simply needs to evaluate who is signed up to tryout for the team or evaluating players from other Mission teams before finalizing the roster. Be patient and know the coach will work as quickly as possible to provide clarity to you.

I want to share that there are many players every year that receive this notice and then are later offered a spot and return to Mission and accept. This happens often and on every team every year.

Mission coaches are charged with creating a roster that can ensure players are playing with equally competitive teammates and that meet the position needs and roles for that team. This can fluctuate during the year. Coaches have been able to observe you and get information on your performance at Mission, but they won’t have a chance to evaluate the other players trying out on Tryout day. Therefore they will be evaluating those players and making a decision on Tryout day.

Ask the coach when they would want to see you on Tryout day. Please know that your performance all year is evaluated - it’s not about your performance on tryout day. YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS.

3. No Offer will be given

This is rarely used, but if the coach knows they won’t be making an offer we want to arm you with that information so that you can make the best decision.

Summary

Mission forms teams every August with the goal of creating very competitive teams with excellent coaching and players who are committed to challenging their potential and being great teammates. That commitment to each other is for 1 year and as you know tryout time comes and is the one time a year where players and clubs reset their teams in Minnesota.

Some players will make the decision to move to another club because they believe it’s best for them. Some players won’t be asked back but will end up on another club team and thrive. We are blessed to have a lot of great clubs in this area.

Mission’s desire is to keep kids in our program. Typically we see 2-3 players change out on each team which allows Mission teams to get more competitive each year. We understand that existing Mission players and families are looking for competitive teams and if we did no cuts, those top players leave. We will do our best to choose a Mission player over a new player if the evaluation is similar.

We know this is a stressful time and it is for coaches and directors as well.
